ECLand: The ECMWF Land Surface Modelling System

چکیده
The land-surface developments of the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) are based on Carbon-Hydrology Tiled Scheme Surface Exchanges over Land (CHTESSEL) and form an integral part Integrated Forecasting System (IFS), supporting a wide range global weather, climate environmental applications. In order to structure, coordinate focus future benefit from international collaboration in new areas, flexible system named ECLand, which would facilitate modular extensions support numerical weather prediction (NWP) society-relevant operational services, example, Copernicus, is presented. This paper introduces recent examples novel ECLand (i) vegetation; (ii) snow; (iii) soil; (iv) open water/lake; (v) river/inundation; (vi) urban areas. evaluated separately with long-range, atmosphere-forced surface offline simulations coupled land-atmosphere-ocean experiments. illustrates benchmark criteria assessing both process fidelity regards land fluxes reservoirs water-energy-carbon exchange one hand, other hand requirements ECMWF’s NWP, atmospheric composition monitoring services using Earth assimilation framework.

An Improved Snow Scheme for the ECMWF Land Surface Model: Description and Offline Validation
A new snow scheme for the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) land surface model has been tested and validated. The scheme includes a new parameterization of snow density, incorporating a liquid water reservoir, and revised formulations for the subgrid snow cover fraction and snow albedo. Offline validation (covering a wide range of spatial and temporal scales) includes s...

Automation of Land Records is one of the most important initiatives undertaken by the revenue department to facilitate the landowners of the state of Punjab. A number of such initiatives have been taken in different States of the country. Recently, there has been a growing tendency to adopt UML (Unified Modeling Language) for different modeling needs and domains, and is widely used for designin...
متن کاملThe Torne-Kalix PILPS 2(e) experiment as a test bed for modifications to the ECMWF land surface scheme
Results from two land surface models participating in the PILPS 2(e) experiment [the default European Centre for MediumRange Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) scheme and a modified version labeled MECMWF] are examined. Modifications are implemented in the parameterization of snow sublimation, albedo ageing, surface runoff, and soil hydraulical coefficients. Results of a third run, SECMWF, in which the ...
